Let’s have a look at the basics.

We are currently located on the 3rd planet from the Sun. This slightly tilted planet is orbiting the Sun along with other planets (main and dwarf ones) and numerous asteroids. The orbit planes of main planets are very close to each other. So if we imagine Earth's orbit as an extended flat disk with the Sun at its center, we'll see the planets sit on that disk.

Although Copernicus helped us realize that Earth was not the center of the Solar system, we still need to make sense of the reality we observe, where Earth is a vantage point. The apparent path of the Sun against background of stars over the course of a year defines the imaginary plane of ecliptic. We are enjoying an optical illusion where it seems like Sun moves across the moving skies, enters different constellations placed along the ecliptic plane, conjuncts with other planets, gets blocked out by the Moon during Solar Eclipses, casts the shadow over the Moon during Lunar Eclipses.

12 out of 13 constellations along the ecliptic plane are used in astrology (both Western and Vedic) to divide the path of the Sun in 12 sectors or houses, each with its unique theme. Tropical Astrology (known as Western) anchors spring equinox to Aries, while ignoring the actual stars seen in the sky at that moment. Sidereal Astrology (Vedic and some branches of Western) references to the True Sky, while taking in consideration the precession of equinoxes and current shift of spring equinox to Aquarius.

As we can see ecliptic is a circle, two dimensional fragment of the sky, that is used as a reference point within the Solar system (by scientists as well). Regular natal chart is a snapshot of ecliptic, taken in a specific moment of time from a specific location. It captures positions of planets and asteroids that don't deviate much from ecliptic plane and provides us with a 2D geometrical pattern. Deep space objects (fixed stars, galaxies, nebulae etc) that may be above or underneath the ecliptic are projected onto this flat disk when included in the natal chart. Let's say you have a trine in your natal chart. In other words, three planets at the moment of your birth form a triangle on the ecliptic. When we add deep space objects to the chart, we transfer 2D pattern (triangle in this example) from ecliptic to the 3D space and connect the points that can be million light years apart in different parts of the visible Universe and more importantly the way they were millions and billions years ago - as the light we see in the sky takes some time to travel.

All natal points conjunctions with deep space objects are actually the pathways of connection, the lines of intricate pattern, your unique energetic signature, multi-dimensional expression of Sacred Geometry that is ready to be unlocked and activated.
