Medusa's head and power of Creation on a New Moon

Medusa's head, Algol, power of Creation
Algol, Beta Persei

New Moon on May 16th 2026 is a true Taurian one: at 25°57’ Taurus in Tropical system and at 1°43’ Taurus in Sidereal system, which is also conjunct with Mercury and Ceres. For both our human and Higher Self expression we are asked to reevaluate our needs, aspirations, dreams, ideas and sow new intentions according to revised upgraded versions of ourselves. Mercury and Ceres emphasize a need to cultivate optimistic affirmative thoughts and give shadow work and shattering revelations a rest for the time being.

This New Moon is under influence of the infamous binary star Algol or Medusa’s head in the constellation of Perseus. Medusa as a prominent archetype of female power has been reinterpreted multiple times throughout the history and has proven the influence of myths over collective subconscious, its fluid and ever changing nature. Medusa can be seen as a monster slayed by a valorous hero, whose decapitated head was still capable of killing by a deadly gaze. Medusa can be seen as a beautiful maiden who was defiled by Neptune in Minerva’s temple and turned into a monster as a punishment for sacrilege. Medusa can be seen as Great Mother Goddess whose cult was decimated by male dominated Greek Olympian culture. Its later placement on Athene’s breastplate turned into an ominous metaphor of breast cancer, a repressed female sexuality set on a journey of self-destruction.

No matter what storyline we choose, we come in touch with power of Creation which can be deadly and destructive, if not used properly. New Moon conjuct with Medusa'a head reminds us to detach from drama of trauma and use our creative power in the most constructive way, by seeding new vision and tending to shoots of new ideas.
